Manual Coffee Machines FAQs
Is Manual Right for Us?
What's the difference between a manual barista machine and an automatic machine?
It's craft versus convenience. A manual machine is operated by hand — someone grinds, doses, extracts and textures milk for each cup — giving you true café quality and the theatre that comes with it. An automatic bean-to-cup machine does all of that at the touch of a button. Manual suits staffed, experience-led spaces; automatic suits self-serve workplaces where anyone should be able to make a great coffee.
Is it suitable for a busy, self-serve office?
Usually not — and we'll tell you so honestly. High-volume, self-serve teams are better served by our automatic bean-to-cup range, which delivers speed and consistency without anyone needing barista skills. A manual machine shines where there's someone to run it, not where people are grabbing a quick cup between meetings.
When does a manual machine make sense in a workplace?
When coffee is part of the experience, not just a utility — executive and client-facing spaces, reception and hospitality areas, studios, and premium fit-outs where a barista set-up sends a message about how you do things. If you want coffee to impress clients and give staff a genuine perk, a manual machine earns its place.
Machine Options & Sizing
What group size do we need?
It depends on how many coffees you're serving at peak. As a guide, 2-group suits most workplace cafés and client suites, 3-group suits busier staffed spaces, and 4-group is for high-volume or event settings with a barista serving a steady queue. We'll match the configuration to your throughput.
What manual machines does Krema supply?
Krema supplies the Fiamma and La Marzocco ranges — two of the most respected names in traditional espresso — in 2, 3 and 4-group configurations to suit your space and volume. You can explore the full specifications on the La Marzocco and Fiamma websites, and we'll help you choose the right model for your workplace.
Ownership, Training & Support
Can we buy the machine outright?
Yes. Manual machines are available to purchase outright when paired with Krema coffee bean supply — so you own the equipment, and we keep you supplied with freshly roasted coffee to run it. We'll talk you through the setup that suits your space and how you want to run it.
What's included — installation, training and coffee?
Krema handles installation and provides includes introductory on-site barista training so your team is ready to go, plus an ongoing supply of freshly roasted beans. Additional staff training is available for larger teams and is charged separately.
Do we need trained staff to operate it?
Yes — and we make sure you have them. Manual machines are hands-on, so quality depends on the operator. Krema provides on-site barista training covering grinding, extraction, milk texturing and troubleshooting, building real confidence so your team gets café-quality results from day one.
